Samia's Story
The interest rate was the thing that appealed to me about the mortgage I went for. It was with a bank I was with for a long period of time, too, so I trusted them. The mortgage is almost exactly the same amount as the rent.
The area where I was renting was too expensive to buy in so I did have to move elsewhere. I also think I'll be moving on fairly quickly.
Samia's thoughts
I would tell people not to go for the most expensive house or mortgage they can get. I could have had a mortgage for £90,000 but I chose to get one for £73,000 because I was uneasy about paying the maximum.
If I had to buy again, I'd look at the area where I wanted to live more closely. When I bought I was pregnant so was in a rush.
I'd also talk to more mortgage lenders and build a bigger picture of what was available.
