Kristen's Story

We wanted to be in a stable position for a couple of years, without having to worry about interest rates. We rented for a year before buying and as property prices were going up we realised if we didn't get on the property ladder when we did, we probably never would. Plus renting is dead money. You get nothing for it, really. So we ended up buying a house across the road from where we rented.

Kristen's thoughts

Property is always an investment. In the short term we won't make the money on it we thought, but by staying, we are seeing it go up in value, so buying is worth it.

I'd certainly suggest checking out all the different kind of mortgages before you buy a house. There are lots, but most are similar so it's not a hard thing to do - and you'll have more knowledge when it comes to choosing one.
