Tamara's Story

When we were renting we'd have to renew every six months, and that's not a secure way to live so we decided to buy because we could afford to. And because we could have dogs if we owned a house as well!

We were advised to take out a fixed rate, and it does provide security, knowing your payments in advance.

Tamara's thoughts

We might not be in our house for long - it depends what we do with our careers, but it's still worth buying as it's gone up in value and is continuing to do so. Buying isn't the millstone people think - we can sell at any time.

We used an Independent Financial Advisor. That did make the paperwork a lot less stressful, although I was surprised that some solicitors can get away with being so rude. They know you need them but it's no excuse.

We bought from a couple getting divorced and I don't recommend anyone does that. They were at war and used the house as a bargaining point, and held up the procedures just to annoy each other.
