Kevin's Story
I bought my house from the council. It was nice to think I would be able to leave my kids something later. And I realised I could own the house for not much more than the rent I was paying. We had a third child and were offered a three-bedroom house by the council, so we jumped at the chance to take it and then to buy it.
We'll make some money on it and move on fairly soon.
Kevin's thoughts
Buying from the council means we have to live here for three years before I can sell the house. The council advised me on the type of mortgage to take out, too.
I'm glad I bought. I think it's always worth doing.
The amount of paperwork is enormous, but apart from that it's not as hard as I thought.
